Source Methodology

Readers deserve to understand how our journalism is reported and where our information comes from. This page explains how Spain in English finds, evaluates, and uses sources.

Last Updated: May 2026

Types of Sources We Use

  • Official government statements, press releases, and public records
  • Court documents, parliamentary records, and regulatory filings
  • Interviews with named experts, officials, and witnesses
  • Verified wire service reports (AP, Reuters, AFP, EFE)
  • Peer-reviewed research and academic studies
  • Reports from established Spanish and international news organisations
  • First-hand reporting by our own journalists

Verification Standards

All factual claims are verified before publication. Where possible, we use at least two independent sources for significant claims. We do not publish unverified allegations as fact.

Data and statistics are checked against original sources. Where data has been interpreted or analysed, we explain our methodology within the article.

If we cannot independently verify a claim, we say so clearly in the article rather than presenting it as confirmed fact.

Anonymous Sources

We rely on anonymous sources only when the information is in the genuine public interest and cannot be obtained on the record. When we grant anonymity, we:

  • Know and have verified the identity of the source
  • Understand the reason the source requires anonymity
  • Explain to readers why anonymity was granted
  • Do not rely on a single anonymous source for a significant claim

AI-Assisted Reporting

Where artificial intelligence tools are used in the preparation of content, this is disclosed to readers. AI-generated content is always reviewed, verified, and edited by a human journalist before publication. We do not publish AI output without editorial oversight.

Wire Services and Syndication

Some articles on Spain in English are based on, or adapted from, reports by wire services such as Reuters, AP, AFP, or EFE. These are attributed clearly. We do not republish wire copy verbatim without editorial review and localisation.
